So, I know you guys have put in a ton of work for the plugins on spells and spell movements, but there is a certain difficulty in performing the spells; at least for me since I use my mousepad a majority of the time. So my suggestion is this: what if we were to use arrow keys? Or could that even be done? I know nothing about coding but I think that method would be vastly more efficient in casting.

If it were possible, the premise behind the movements would stay the same, or have an equivalent movement for the arrow keys. Like, for Lumos, you would press the down arrow key then cast (Left Click). I understand that movements such as "Swish Up, to the Left" would be more challenging, or leave more room to fail the movement. Really, I'd see it as press two of the arrow keys at the same time.

Jab would remain the same command, though. Again, this was just an idea I was thinking about today and thought it would be cool. You don't need to go out of your way just to tell me why it wouldn't work, I can take rejection.

As always, thank you for allowing me to be a part of this server and contribute the way I, and all of us, are enabled to.

On an added note, this would be useful to avoid other students learning spells they shouldn't from watching someone else.

this sounds like a great idea, but, having no knowledge of programming and stuff, i have no idea how hard it would be to add! could someone give us a 3rd opinion?

This seems like it might be really difficult to do, but I can't know for sure either. If it's too tedious it may probably be seen is too much trouble for what it's worth (but that's just my opinion on that). It could definitely be useful as a substitute and I understand the reasoning behind it, but on the other hand, it doesn't exactly adhere to the wand movement system anywhere near as accurately. If this is something that becomes implemented players could try using it as a shortcut: simply pressing the buttons and casting it instead of performing movements manually, which could really create a balance problem.

As far as solving the problem regarding players mimicking others and learning spells they should not know that that time, this is easily be avoided by casting those kind of spells somewhere they cannot see (nor hear), which is not really that difficult.

I certainly do understand the intention behind this suggestion and see its uses. But to me, this could easily be exploited and would probably be more trouble than what it's worth. It could just be seen as going against the original intention of the movements themselves (but that's a matter of opinion, of course). I'm just going to say that I see more cons than pros, and that would make something not worth prioritising in most cases.

Yeah, I was thinking about it last night and, after talking to Pande about it, I realize it'd never work. For one, they'd have to rewrite all their code for that plugin and install, or create, a custom mod that allows commands to be bound to the arrow keys. But, even in a perfect world where that would be easy, the cons to outweigh the pros. I'd still like to dwell on some method fo preventing people from peeking on other's spell movements and learning things like Apparate or Reparo. How about some sort of automated punishment for casting spells within a given radius of another player? And include some for of verbal keyword to give concent for casting near someone?

Minecraft does not allow key presses to be registered unless you use a modded client, therefore even if we wanted to do this, then we would need to have a modded client.  Also there would be an issue where we would have to register two keys to do diagonal.  In essense, this isn't going to happen due to the fact that:

1) A modded client would give advantage to some users over others.

2) Logistics would mean this 'quick' version would make the previous code, which did take awhile, obselete

3) the coding for this would detract from other features in the server when it's overall not needed.

As for people peeking at spell movements, that is part of the game, as well as what would happen in real life.  I would not think that it should be considered a bad thing if people can learn by watching so long as the people who know spells that aren't supposed to be released to people stop casting them.  Otherwise I am going to have to start disabling them because staff members can't be trusted with this knowledge

No. God no.

Even with the "benefit" of people not being able to look at and then "steal" movements, it's actually easier for someone like me to see where someone is stepping than where their head is going. Also, the whole point of adding wand movements to the server was to add a more realistic effect to it. I dunno how many times I saw Neville running around in circles in order to cast an Expelliarmus spell, which he couldn't get right at the time, so...I mean, I know this idea is out but also no because of all those reasons.
