I have, but they keep telling me to just buy the books...
Buying books and reading them would be a good start.
There are spell movements in the spellbooks as well as what the spells do.

I haven't been on Knockturn for several months now, but when I came back on, my whole inventory had been cleared except for my wand. All my food, my books, everything. My money stayed the same though, so I couldn't re-buy all my equipment.
