All rules broken by an account will be considered your responsibility. Excusing it by saying a 'friend' or 'sibling' did it, not you, will not excuse you from breaking the rule. Mojang's TOS states all accounts are not to be shared. We will not excuse the actions of an account just because someone claims it was not the account owner.
Chat Related Violations
Jerkiness
"Rather have 10 nice people than 100 jerks." Anyone just being outright rude or annoying will probably get a permaban or permamute from the server. This is due to the 'No Jerk Rule' in the server ie we don't want to have to deal with people we don't like and since the community is nice as is, we rather just have less people than a server full of shizzle heads.
Spam
Anything that a moderator considers spam is against the rules in the server. This does not necessarily dictate caps however, and is situational and judged based on the moderator in question. If a moderator warns you to stop spamming, and you continue to do so, you are in violation of this rule. This can be on the same day or even multiple days if you are a repeat offender. Spam can be something displeasing to the eye, all caps, random capitalizations in the same word, too much punctuation, excessive use of one letter in a word, casting spells in global, or anything that you are asked to stop doing.
Swearing
In Knockturn, any form of swears, whether abbreviated or not are no acceptable, and absolutely prohibited in global chat. Local chat can contain swears, if all people reading that chat agree to be okay with swearing. However, swearing in public areas such as the great hall is not allowed, and swearing in school can result in loss of points if a professor overhears you, due to the fact that students should not be using foul language in school.
Advertising
This can pertain to the name or ip of another server, a Youtube channel, another TeamSpeak, another Discord, a plugin, or anything that is deemed an outside product that is not specifically promoted by Knockturn. Any advertising can result in a ban from the server. Advertising in any channel are prohibited and is defined by any form of directly telling people about something that they have not asked about in casual conversation beforehand. The difference being: "Come see my server." and "I have a server similiar to this server." An exception being, of course, when someone is previously friends or someone has obviously spent a great deal speaking with the person, and it is left up to discretion of staff to determine if they are offended by it or not. This is a shade of gray rule, so it may not be as simple as black and white, however, most people will have the common sense to know when they are advertising versus just talking. However, any conversation of this type needs to be confined to non-public local chat as well as messages. Never in global.
Slandering The Server
Although we understand you may have disagreements with how things are run or how the server looks, you should keep these comments out of global chat and out of public areas. Many people have worked for hundreds of hours to build this server, and they do not want to feel degraded anymore than you want someone to come over your house and tell you that you are ugly. If you have reservations about the server and dislike it, you are free to leave, whether by choice or force.
Trolling, Harassment, Prejudices, Religion, Politics, Opinions, and Rudeness
We don't have any tolerence for people who are rude to anyone for any reason. This can range for just disliking someone or for anything you may find offensive. Knockturn is a zero-religion zone as well as a zero-prejudice zone. You can discuss these things, but you cannot practice, make clubs for, or in any way push your beliefs on anyone else. This can include any popular group such as PETA, GSA, Christianity, Republicans, Socialism, or anything of this kind. Knockturn is a server for minecraft and Harry Potter. Any topic unrelated should be a polite conversation or not discussed. In general, if you don't have anything nice to say, shut up. Telling people who are speaking in foreign languages in local chats to 'speak english' is also not considered okay.
Requesting Staff
Staff applications are to be posted in the forum, not requested in the server. Trying to Solicit staff in any other means is against the rules and will result in no one giving it to you even if you apply.
IRC and Discord
IRC and Discord have their own special rules. Which you will obey. Any ban in Discord or IRC will result is equal or longer ban from the server. Breaking server rules will carry over in the other way if those who moderate those areas agree they don't want you there.
IRC Rules
- No spamming the server.
- No swearing to the server
- No impersonating of staff. (IRC staff are @ on irc) (or other players)
- No spamming IRC itself.
- All rules about chat from the minecraft server applies
- No advertising allowed as the rule above states.
- Don't ping people (specifically Truency or Pandette) unless it is an emergency
- Don't ping people when they are in-game
- No excessively long names
- Names must make it obvious who is speaking to the server.
- Speaking to global is considered ban evasion.
Griefing
Destroying & Building
There is no grief by breaking or building any blocks allowed anywhere in the main world. Any time you accidentally break anything you should report the incident to someone, instead of leaving it broken. You should also report anything you find broken as well.
Stealing
Stealing someone else's items in the main world is prohibited. This can include going somewhere and taking their things from a chest or killing someone and taking their things. You are absolutely not allowed to do either in the main world and any such manners will result in loss of house points, being kicked, or being banned. Remember, we have coreprotect and can determine the culprit so make our lives easier, and just don't do it.
Violence
Spells
The casting of spells on any individual that does not wish it will result in loss of points, kicking or banning. You are absolutely not allowed to cast spells on anyone who does not wish it. You should always ask beforehand.
Melee
Any damage done by melee is also prohibited, unless asked for, and killing is absolutely prohibited.
Other
Mods
Any client side mods are prohibited if they help you advance in the game without doing the work yourself. This can includes macros, seeing through blocks, or anything that will render you a higher ability to do something than if you didn't have the mod.
Hacking/DDoS attacks
I hope I don't have to tell you this, but doing either will result in a permanent ban.
In case of a DDoS attack or similar action, law enforcement will be notified.
Lagging of the Server
Anything that would cause lag to the server is not allowed. This can include anything from walking constantly, outrageous use of world edit, or having too many animals. You should try to keep your bandwidth footprint as small as possible.
Exploiting
If after finding a bug in the server, if you do not report it, and proceed to exploit it, it is a bannable offense. If someone keeps on casting a bugged spell, obvioussly ignoring the error message, breaks also this rule and has to count with a ban.
My account, not me
If someone else is using your account for any reason, the rules that are broken are still applicable. If someone does something that will get you banned, you're banned. Mojang prohibit's account sharing, therefore if you for some reason share an account, you need to discuss this with the person you share it with, because we can't unban an account that constantly breaks rules.
Staff Word
In any dispute, staff word is law and can only be overridden by a higher level staff member.
Badgering Staff
All of our staff have multiple jobs to fill & cannot constantly be at your every whim to moment you ask it. For that reason, we ask that you use /helpop instead of messaging directly any staff member. Beyond that, if you make a post in Suggestions, Help Me, or the Bug Reports, we ask that you wait & do not message staff in game, especially if that staff member is: Owner, Co-Owner, Admin, Demi-Admin, Texture Artist, Builder, Professor, or Plugin Dev, because all of these members tend to be more busy doing specific things rather than just dealing with users. If you have a problem please constant a MiniMod or a Moderator unless we have otherwise stated in another form that it is okay to message them. Breaking this rule can result in: TempBan or Permanent Ban.
Spell Sharing
Spell sharing is allowed in moderation. You are allowed to share 1-2 spells with 3-4 friends either in /msg or in local chat where no one else can hear. You are not allowed to give spell information in global, to large groups of people in local, or message more than about 4 people with the spell info. Also, if we notice that every day you're sharing spells with new people and just generally trying to get around the rule, you can still be punished. Punishment includes the loss of points, and, as you know, if you lose too many the punishments will become greater.
(Also- when I talk about "Spell sharing" I am referring to the movements)
Unopened Areas
Areas in any world that are not open to the public shouldn't be entered by anyone except staff who are permitted to enter. Even if you can get into the areas with spells or with another "technically not cheating" way, you should not be there.
Common Rooms
People from other houses are allowed in common rooms. If they somehow got the password, they're allowed in. However, someone can't purposely leave a common room door open with the intention of letting a bunch of people in or go around telling everyone common room passwords. The passwords should be kept a secret as much as possible, but if someone does find them out, it's fine. Passwords also get changed regularly to avoid this causing problems.
Great Hall
The Great Hall is a very public space. Therefore, the chat in the Great Hall will have all the same rules and be considered equal to global chat.
Obscure Rules
Blauflamma
Mentioning 'the blauflamma' bug is an instant 3 day ban if you bring it up to Pandette. She won't even tell you, you will simply be banned.
Alcohol
You may not be drunk in Hogwarts school. Any person who is found drunk or handing alcohol out while attending school will have points taken.
Drunk in Global
You are not allowed to speak in global when drunk. It makes your chat very spam-like and unneeded, so it is not allowed.
Flying Inside
Flying inside buildings is not allowed. If you are caught doing this, points will be taken.
AFK Flying
AFK flying (Flying on your broom while AFK) is a kickable offense. If caught repeating the offense you may recieve a 3 day tempban. If continued after a tempban, you may face a permanent ban.
Reporting Roleplay
Only report serious, actual offenses in the Offenses section of the forums. Reporting things like flying inside, being casted on, or drunkenness in Hogwarts is very unnecessary and wastes staff's time. These are roleplay offenses, and people can get away with things in roleplay. It's part of the experience.
Helping Players
Due to the fact that when joining the server everyone goes through a different process, the only people who should assist new people are Helpers, Mods, Admins, or Owners. If none of those 4 are available, then other staff should help, otherwise, the job can fall to a normal users. The exception being if someone knows the player personally.
Begging
Begging for money/galleons is not permitted in the server. Begging qualifies as anything that involves asking for money or asking for 'donations'. Everyone is expected to earn their own money. Anyone who gives you money because they want to can, but asking for it, especially in global, is expressly not allowed.
