Okay, so, in my eyes, Orbis is the base spell of most combos. If you get Orbis'd in a duel, there's a low chance you can survive depending on differing factors:
- Depends on your spell list, as well as the opponent's spell list (assuming those spells are nonverbal). Say, for example, if your opponent has only Orbis and Bombarda nonverbal, then you can spam Episkey to heal yourself while in the ground. However, if the opponent has Umbreo and Lumos Duo added to their nonverbal list, then your chance of surviving lessens.
- Depends on how fast you, as well as your opponent, can accurately spam spells. If you happen to spam Episkey faster than your opponent can spam Bombarda, or possibly Confringo, then you can survive.
- Framerate, though that's just a personal issue.
As you may or may not have noticed, I didn't give the chance of using Protego while being Orbis'd into the ground. Reason being that when Orbis is cast, Protego completely depletes itself, therefore rendering you vulnerable. As the second bullet suggests, your best bet is to heal yourself as quickly and precisely as possible.
Now, you can also shoot other spells back at them while Orbis'd, but from my experience with other duelers, they'll usually play tactically and use Protego to defend themselves from retaliation, and wait for a chance to strike back. However, another thing prevents the one who has been Orbis'd from fighting back. In some occasions, players will be Orbis'd into the ground and cannot move their 'head.' Therefore, they cannot do any spell movements. Seeing as well-trained Orbis's often last quite some time, any dueler can practically kill them in less than 30 seconds.
I understand that it's being 'reworked' by the Spell Devs and that this topic has been discussed multiple times within common duelers as well as Staff. You may call this a rant, and I will admit, recent duels with certain wizards have made me very frustrated, seeing as that the common pattern to winning begins with an Orbis. I will also admit that I, too, have used Orbis to win most duels, though now I see it as 'brokenly overpowered.'
All I am asking for is a little diversity in duels. I am no Spell Dev myself, and can perceive the fact that this issue may not be so easy to solve regarding its code. Unfortunately, I do not have an idea as to making Orbis a bit more 'acceptable' during duels, despite wanting to see it change.
